Ultimate Guide for Date Night Ideas in Guelph

By: Jaden Steele

The winter season can be hard, especially for those who do not fully embrace it and its outdoor activities. It gets dark way too early, it’s freezing cold, and everything is covered in ice. Why not add a little bit of warmth? This year I implemented a mandatory date night at least 1-2 times a month to help with the winter blues. I highly recommend adding a fun date night to your schedule, whether it be with your significant other, family or friends! It’s always nice to have something to look forward to.

Here are some local, indoor date night ideas:

For the artsy people out there, get creative.

Play with Clay offers pottery painting and clay-building options. They’ve also added the Clay Bar for late night clay play.

Catch a show at the River Run! It’s not just for field trips, this wonderful venue hosts a variety of shows, for all audiences! Check out what they have to offer in 2024.

Appreciate the incredible local and Canadian artists exhibitions and collections at the Art Gallery of Guelph. See what’s up and coming!

For the sporty ones, there’s lots of fun, interactive, indoor options.

Who said you can only golf in the summer? Visit the Golf House to work on your swing all year round. Offering the best in golf simulators and fully stocked kitchen and bar.

Bring back the classics, go bowling! Visit Woodlawn Bowl for the whole package. Book a lane, check out the arcade or loosen up in the bar!

Test your strength, physically and mentally! Rock climbing is a great bonding activity and allows you to push your limits. The Guelph Grotto offers a variety of options for all climber levels. Before you know it, you’ll be hooked!

For the adventurous ones, keep the adrenaline pumping.

Visit an escape room and see how well you really get along! There are so many fun options in Guelph offering several escape experiences. There is nothing quite as rewarding as finding and figuring out a clue. Get your Nancy Drew on!

Get your game on and see how competitive your date truly is. Is not as easy as it looks. Axe throwing is a great time and don’t worry, you’ll get a quick lesson before you start! Check out Riot Axe for a great experience, equipped with a yummy selection of cans.

For those looking to grab a cozy bite or drink, these establishments bring all the warmth.

Offering a delicious culinary experience, with clever twists on everyone’s favourites, Queen’s Café is a must. You’ll immediately feel like family, with an elevate home-style meal and incredibly inviting owners and staff.

I love a good pub. Nothing says cozy like sitting next to a fireplace while enjoying a delicious meal. Mix that with a welcoming environment, and an authentic atmosphere, it makes the most of the harsh winter months. Here are three of my favourite Guelph pubs.

Looking to stop in for a casual drink? Visit Two Faces Wine Bar for an incredible selection of wine. Two Faces makes an effort to find unique bottles from small vineyards, from far and wide. You’re definitely not finding their selection at the LCBO!

Another option for a casual drink and nibbles, featuring a fabulous, rotating seasonal menu, visit the Ward Bar at Spring Mill Distillery. The fireplace is always roaring!
