Illuminating Memories: Hospice Wellington's Tree of Remembrance Event

By: Andra Arnold

As the holiday season approaches, the Guelph community eagerly anticipates the annual Tree of Remembrance event, a heartfelt initiative by Hospice Wellington. This campaign transcends festive celebrations; it's a poignant journey of remembrance, community support, and the celebration of cherished memories.

Year after year, the Tree of Remembrance becomes a symbol of love, compassion, and unity within our community. Beyond the festive decorations, this campaign holds a deeper purpose — to raise awareness and vital funds for the invaluable end-of-life services and support programs provided by Hospice Wellington.

Central to the event is the sale of special Christmas ornaments, each priced at $12. These ornaments are not mere decorations; they are tokens of remembrance, adorned with care and love. Throughout December, Stone Road Mall in Guelph becomes a hub of community engagement, where individuals can purchase these special ornaments and contribute to a cause that touches the lives of many.
What sets the Tree of Remembrance apart is the personal touch it offers. Those who purchase ornaments have the opportunity to place a Remembrance Tag on the tree, creating a living memorial adorned with messages of love and cherished memories. It's a powerful way for individuals to honor and remember their loved ones during the holiday season.

While Stone Road Mall houses the main booth launching December 1, various locations throughout Wellington County also play a part in this heartfelt campaign. From the Mount Forest Lions  Xmas Craft Market to the Spirit of the Season Holiday Market in Guelph, the campaign is a testament to the strength of community bonds and shared compassion.

For those unable to purchase an ornament but still eager to support the cause, Hospice Wellington welcomes festive donations. Making a donation and selecting the "2023 Tree of Remembrance" allocation is a meaningful way to contribute to the event's success and the continuation of essential end-of-life services.

The campaign began early with the Mount Forest Lions Xmas Craft Market on November 18th and continues throughout December at various locations. Ornaments will be available at Hospice Wellington starting December 5th on both the residence and community levels.

In celebrating the Tree of Remembrance, the Guelph community comes together to illuminate homes with festive ornaments and, more importantly, to brighten the lives of those supported by Hospice Wellington. May the memories shared on the Tree of Remembrance continue to shine brightly, bringing comfort and solace to those who need it most. Here's to a season of giving, remembrance, and community support.
