Celebrating Earth Day in Guelph

As we prepare to celebrate Earth Day this year, it is important to remember that the planet is facing many challenges including climate change, deforestation and pollution. These challenges not only threaten the beautiful earth we live on, but can also make a significant impact on us.

One of the most important ways we can protect our environment is by reducing our carbon footprint by reducing our use of fossil fuels. Some ways to do this would be, walking or biking on a nice day, taking public transportation when available, or even using energy efficient appliances and light bulbs.

Remember the phase we learnt in school, reduce, reuse, recycle? It's exactly that, and a very impactful way to preserve our environment. This can be done by recycling, composting, or choosing reusable and sustainable products rather than plastic, disposable ones. Reducing our daily waste will help conserve our natural resources, and the amount of waste that ends up in our landfills and oceans.

In addition to these actions we should be more mindful of on a daily basis, ways to celebrate Earth Day are:

- participate in a local clean up, or get some neighbours together to clean up your local park and streets

- plant some trees

- spend your time outside appreciating our beautiful earth

- shop at your local farmers markets.

- think about buying second hand before buying brand new.

By all working together, we can male a positive impact on our planet to ensure a sustainable future for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Let's remember that every action we take, no matter how big or small, can all make a difference. Let's commit to all working together to protect our lovely Earth.

Happy Earth Day,

Alli
